Starting Evaluation

After a long process of filming and editing the opening sequence of our film I m now ready to start my evaluation. I will be answering 7 questions about different media aspects.

Final Version Of Opening Sequence!

Heres the final version of our opening sequence fully edited and ready to be presented.

Enjoy! :)

Editing Done!

Finally we have finished editing our 2 minute opening sequence for a film. Everything worked out as we expected. The editing took around 9 days to complete. We are all really happy with the result and we hope you enjoy it as well.

:)

Final Sound Track

We have finally found our final sound track that is suitable for our opening sequence.

We thought this would be the suitable sound track because it starts of slowly and it starts a beat which creates attention between the audience.

Sound Tracks

For our blog we need s scary/horror movie sound track that suits our opening sequence. We don't want anything too slow and we don't want anything too fast.

Below are some sound tracks from Youtube that I will analyse and talk a bit about them.

This first sound track is not too fast or too slow, it's something that most horror movies would use, however I don't think this would be suitable for our opening sequence because this sound track suits horror movies where someone is trying to kill someone else, therefore it's not suitable for our opening sequence because we don't include any form of violence in the opening sequence.

This one is more suitable because it gives the audience the feeling of being followed or someone is getting followed which suits our opening sequence. Therefore something like this would be suitable for our opening sequence.

More Editing!

We have successfully completed editing the first art of the opening sequence and today we decided to start editing the second part of the opening sequence. This process is very time consuming and we need to do it carefully to make sure there are no mistakes.

We managed to cut and put together the part where we are filming the school gates and the part where I walk into school, also we cut an edited the part where Sohail flicks the cigarette. All of this was done last editing session.

Today we managed to put together the ending part of the opening sequence. All we have left to do now is including the titles in between the scenes.

Editing

Today we started some of our editing and everything went really well. Out editing included using the razor and drag tool which involved us cutting up some of the footage and breaking the scenes down to make it appealing and leave some space for the credits to be put in there later on.
Our cuts had to follow the pattern of continuity which was a bit time consuming because we had to go over the clips again and again until we cut the right parts and put them together.
overall the editing is going well and the opening sequence is beginning to form a story.

Costume Ideas!

As a group we sat down and thought about custome ideas that we need for each character involved in the opening sequence. Below are some images to show you what we thought would be suitable for each character.

Shaghayegh (Jodie)

We thought alot about how we should dress Jodie the main character in the film and we first thought of a normal school uniform however on secodn thoughts we thought that wouldn't be suitable because shes around 18 years old in the movie therefore we should dress her in smart clothing however still suitable for 6th form. Therefore we agreed on grey trousers, black top, grey cardigon normal casual bag and flat shoes.

Sohail (Stalker)

For Sohail (stalker) we first thought that we should dress him up in a rough way which basically means him wearing track suits and trainers. However after a while we thought about dressing him smartly as well because the character s from the 6th form asd well.

Stroy Board

This is our final story board. As  a group we came up with ideas about the storyline and we drew a story board about it.

Scripting!

Our two minute opening sequence does not include any form of dialogue however we still had to write a script for the different scenes.

Scene Intro:

- Camera filming outside the school where we get a clear shot of outside of the school gates.

- Sohail driving whilst Saira is filming from inside of the car.

- Camera moves into the front of the reception where we see Shaghayegh (Jodie) walking in school Texting on her phone and looking around.

- The only sound we hear is the background music.

- Filming from the inside of the car again where the camera has zoomed into the side mirros of Sohail's car and slowly zooms out to show Shaghayegh walking towards reception of the school.

- Moving out the car Sohail is filming Shaghayegh Walking into reception and slowly zooming in on Shaghayegh's feet to show she has entered reception and doors shut.

- Cut to Sohail (stalker) in the cur smoking the cigarrete and flicking the but out the window where we only see Sohail's hand comming out the car window

-Cut to inside of the school where Shaghayegh and Saira are walking to 6th form (birds eye view camrea shot)

- Cut to the 6th form scene with Shaghayegh and Saira sitting at a table talking and leaving after a few seconds where she forgets to take her scarf and leaves it on the table.

- Sohail (stalker) in black jacket with hood on taking the scarf and walking out the 6th form door

- cut to zoomed in shot of Jodies (Shaghayegh) belongings that Sohail (Sohail) has collected without her knowing

-Slowly moving the camera up to show the pictures that Sohail (stalker) has taken of Jodie (Shaghayegh)

- Zoom out the picture and pan down to show Sohail (Stalker) sitting on the chair staring at Shaghayegh's (Jodie) Pictures stuck on the wall.

FADE TO BLACK
End

Preliminary Task

As part of my As coursework I had to create a short clip which showed continuity editing. This task was very easy to do because we were all familiar with editing because we had already created our music video for our A2 music video. There were certain circumstances during our As so therefore we did our A2 coursework first however this was an advantage because when it came to recording and editing for our As coursework we knew exactly what we need to do. We also needed to include over-the-shoulder shots and maintain the 180 degree rule.

Existing Opening Sequences

As part of my research I have been reasearching for other videos. I will watch the clips of other peoples opening sequences and briefly analysing them. I will include a good example and a bad example to show you the differences.

I wouldn't say this is a very good example because the camera they could have used a better camera.
However I think the locations is brilliant for the storyline and it suits it well. Also the diting on this video is really good and effective. They have used different camera angles which helps the audience being aware of what is happening.

This second video is a bad example of an opening sequence. They have made it look too fake and not up to professional standards. They have used a bad quality camera which you can't even see the characters faces properly. They haven't used a range of camera shots.

This is a very good example because they have used a great quality camera which allows you to see facial expresions on the characters faces. Also they have used effective lighting that creates attention. Also the different camera shots have a big influence on the whole clip.

Character Profiles

As a group we came up with ideas and made a brain storm of what we think the characters personality should be like.

Shooting Locations

For our opening sequence we will need to use a couple of different locations which are suitable for the story of the film. Below I will be including a couple of images that we took of the possible locations that we could use for our filming.

This is an image of outside of our School where we will see Jodie appearing for the first time.

This is the opening scene that appears at the start of the two minutes.

This is an image ofour 6th form that we could use for one of the possible locations.

Treatment!

The first two minutes of our opnening sequence will be abou a 6th form girl being stalked by an unidentified guy. The opening scene will clearly show me who plays (Jodie) and different shots to show that she is getting stalked. No one knows whay Jodie is being stalked by that specific person. The ending of the two minutes sequence shows a shrine of Jodies picture on a wall with her stuff and the stalker, however his identity is still not identified. This ending will convince the audience to watch the rest of the movie and see what really happens and what the story is.

Brief

As part of my As Media coursework I will be creating a opening sequence of a movie with Sohail and Saira who are the other group members. In this blog I will be including reseach and other progress that I make through out the making of this opening sequence. The opening sequence will be around twon minutes long. Hope you enjoy the final production.
